The SSC Society Library

The Library can be found on the floor below the SSC Lounge. It holds an extensive collection of legislation, law reports, journals, textbooks and historical material.

Using the Library

The SSC Library is open to Society members. There are spaces for collaborative working or individual research. Printing, photocopying and scanning is available. The library has free WiFi.

The library is usually staffed Monday to Friday, between 9.00 and 17.00. Out of hours access requires an SSC door access card which can be obtained from the library staff in person or by emailing  library@ssclibrary.co.uk.

The library can be booked for events, workshops and training.

Print & Electronic Resources

 

​​​The Library contains a large collection of current textbooks, loose leafs, law reports, legislation and journals, much of which is available for members to borrow. The SSC also holds an extensive collection of historical material.

Ebooks 

Bloomsbury online Scots Law Service and Renton & Brown Loose leafs (via proView) are available to members.

Desk Computer Screens

Legal Research

We provide a legal research service to members. The library has access to several legal databases and may be able to source material from other law libraries. We can scan and send excerpts from textbooks and other print material as well as provide cases, legislation and topic-based research. Please email the library with your request.

The library also undertakes historical research in relation to the SSC Society.

SSC Society Upper Library 

The Upper Library is situated in the Faculty of Advocates' Clerks Office. It contains hundreds of volumes of historical material including a large collection of Session Papers and other court papers, textbooks, journals and SSC Society archive records. We are currently assessing this collection.
