William James (Bill) Christie was born at Edinburgh on 1st November 1932. His first employment was with Dan McKay & Norwell, SSC, where he was assumed a partner in 1961. He retired from that firm and practiced on his own account at 4 Alva Street, Edinburgh, from 1968 to 1970, and then amalgamated his business with Allan McDougall & Co., SSC. He became a Council member in 1973 and was appointed as the Society’s Fiscal from 1975 to 1978. He was elected as Vice President in 1978 and President the following year, but held the Presidency for only for a short time, being elevated to the Shrieval bench as Sheriff at Kirkcaldy later in 1979. He married Maeve Patricia Gallacher (born in Coatbridge on 14th November 1932) on 2nd October 1957. He died at St Raphael's nursing home, Edinburgh, on 8th August 2010, and was buried in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Edinburgh. He is survived by his wife, Maeve, and three sons, Rory, Fergus and Aiden.
